COMPARISON - Hare Atolla v Butter London Disco Biscuit

Hi Goddesses

Things move very fast in CrumpetLand.  It's an ideas place, a land where so many things are started and born ... and rarely finished.

Take this blog post.  It was breathed into life when I bought ALL the Hare polishes in November .... and it's sat in the vault ever since.  Why?  Because OTHER ideas came along.  Not better, just OTHER.  Sheeeeesh.

So here we finally are, comparing the GLORIOUS Hare Atolla  and one of my favourite polishes of 2012, Butter London Disco Biscuit.  Let's start with a few photos of Atolla -

And some solo shots of Disco Biscuit -

Both are dazzlingly bright fuschia crellies, laden with irridescent sparkle.  They ARE very similar, but not without their differences.

Atolla is the coarser of the two.  The crelly is deeper and slightly darker, and opacity builds much more easily.  Disco Biscuit either needs 4 coats or a matching base (I usually use Zoya Dana), whereas Atolla can be worn without undies.

Disco Biscuit is also finer when it comes to the irridescent particles.   DB has fine, dust-like shimmer, whereas Atolla is slightly bolder.

So are they dupes?  Not technically, but yes, they are extremely similar.  So similar that it would be wrong to keep both.   Atolla has more oomph and is the easier to apply, but Disco Biscuit has had a 12 month hold on my heart.

Dilemmas ....

Enjoy xx :)

Best of 2012 - Taupe and Pink

Hi Goddesses

This is the penultimate Best of post before we get to the BIIIIIIIG posts - the genuine Best ofs Of the Year.

This one features the colours that didn't fit anywhere else lol.   There's a couple of pinks - although for me, it's generally been a disappointing year for pink unless you like baby pink glitterbombs.   There's a couple of taupey beiges, which I think have had a strong year.   There should also be Jade Mystic Gold, an insane gold holo, but I forgot to photograph it - duh!

You won't see any greys here - I haven't really lost my heart to any - or blacks, as they don't wear well on me.  However, if you CAN wear black polish, the glitter gods were exceptionally kind to you this year, with some genuinely stunning glitters in black bases.

And that's almost everything covered, except the darlings of the final post :)  Oh, and I don't do brown, or yellow, so none of them here either.  Ok, ready for the pinks ??

The Holland Collection is rammed with classics, and this tastefully hot-but-not-too-hot pink is no exception.  Bright and vibrant without being too intense, this was a nail art staple in the summer.

If you're looking for a nice pink holo, don't faff around, just buy this one.  Jade actually released 3 in their debut collection, which was a bit OTT for me, and this one (the darkest) was my personal fave.

DISCO BISCUIT !!!  I love love love love love this polish!!!  Ugh, divine.  Utterly insanely glorious - this makes me happy whenever I wear it, although I do wish it didn't need undies.   Pink, packed with shimmer.  For the win !!

And the taupes .....

Perfectly serene, calm and elegant.  Love this polish.

China Glaze  - Fast Track

From The Hunger Games, this is warmer, and laced with gold shimmer.  For some who-the-what-now reason, I've yet to wear it ....  untrieds, much ?

This is here because it's one of those universal polishes that everyone should either own, or own something close to.  I have a fair few taupes, and I'm not even saying that this is better than any of them, but it IS application perfection.  If you haven't yet filled the taupe drawer, you won't go far wrong with this.

Oh and stop press, probably my most used polish of the year ?  OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.  White perfection - a MUST if you do nail art.

So, the final post will be Glitter Toppers !!  Polishes that can't really be worn alone, and that don't really fit into ANY colour category!

Other than that, are there any favourites of yours I've missed out ?

See you soon - enjoy xx :)

Stamping Week - Disco Biscuit

Hi Goddesses

When it comes to the end of the year, and I tell you about my favourite polishes of 2012, Butter London Disco Biscuit will be right up there.

A gorgeous squishy pink jelly, this fizzes with life and fun and is just hummana mummana gorgeous.

Truth be told, it's too pretty to stamp over, but certain people (Spellbinding Sarah) keep yelling "STAMP ON IT" at me, so I decided to fun it up with a Konad powder blue polish and Cheeky Plate 11.

Like most of the others you've seen this week, this mani is a few weeks old, and fell right in the middle of my "aaarrgghhhh is it too much to ask for this stamping thing to work" phase.

For the most part this works, but the pattern isn't as crisp as I would have wanted it, the thumb is a mess again (are they really THAT huge ?), and the ring finger - well, I must be getting better, cos if that happened today I would have redone the ring finger.  Yay, I finally have standards!

This was a bright, fun mani.  The pink and the blue popped beautifully together.

Enjoy xx :)

Spring Challenge - Pink Polka Dots

Hi Goddesses

How are you?  Are you enjoying the Challenge?  There's some great bloggers taking part (see the list at the bottom) and you can still join in by clicking the Purple Crumpet Fairy link on the right.

This Challenge was designed to be an easy one, as you could just dot over whatever you wore for Your Favourite Spring Pink.  Amusingly, I think we all ended up going for something completely new !!

I did this on top of my beloved Butter London Disco Biscuit (which you can see in her solo glory here).    I used 3 pinks of various colours - CG Traffic Jam, CC In Bloom (the base for my Candy Shop dupe fact fans) and OPI Steady As She Rose.

I started with the darker dots on all the nails, then added the other 2, and then wen back and added some random ones in various colours on top to give it a less structured feel.

It's not perfect, but I will definitely returning to this again as it's simple and it's soooo cheerful !!  You can't fail to be happy with this mani on your paws :)

Enjoy xx :)

Holy Disco Biscuit !!

Hi Goddesses

Are you ready ??

WOW!

This is Butter London's Disco Biscuit from their new Spring Collection and oh ... my oh my oh my.   I was lucky enough to get this from Lynciaaaaa my Secret Valentine, and lordy lordy lordy ....

I must be honest, I've really fallen out of love with pink as a polish colour.  When I first got back into polish, I had a few, and also those reddyish pinky brown colours.  And I don't use any of 'em.  Now, we must partly blame the blues for this.  Whereas I was once a red-pink-purple girl, lately I seem to have shifted to purple-blue-orange, and the pinks just got nudged out.   Which is a real dilemma as I own quite a lot of them.  Oops.

So, the first thing I need to say about this polish is HOW VERY MUCH I LOVE IT.  It's everything a pink should be - screamingly bright, and my fingers feel so long, glam and sexy :)

Look at this bottle shot - do you see how special she is ?   This is Disco Biscuit's secret power.  As well as being an amazing hothouse pink, she is home to a million baby blue twinkles!  Just look at them ... ah, bliss.   Depending on the light they flash, quite electrically, and they just take this polish to a whole other level.

There is only 1 problem with Disco Biscuit - she is amazingly sheer.   Even for a jelly, she's sher, but I guess she has to be gossamer thin for the blue twinklies to work.

All the fingers are 3 coats, and there is STILL some VNL.   The middle finger is 3 coats on top of Zoya Dawn, which is almost a perfect match shade-wise, and even then I can still see VNL.

Anyway, she's lovely, she's sexy and she's mine mine mine.  Thank you Lyncia xx

Enjoy xx :)
