#33DC Day 20 - A Pattern In Your Wardrobe

Hi Goddesses

This is not the mani I thought I would do for this challenge :)  I started off thinking I would do my winter slippers, but as they are ALSO leopard print, I decided it was just too similar to Day 12.   Then I decided to do my Animal (from The Muppets) t-shirt ... but that didn't go so well.  So quite accidentally, we end up -

HERE.  And here is a blouse I have.  It's a black background, with green berries on it, and white whatevers linking them together.

On base we have w7 Black, the white I used is OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, and the green is the classic China Glaze, Starboard.

You'll notice my berries aren't identical to the blouse, but I really like them.   I think they capture the essence of the blouse AND the mani looks cool in its own right.

Hurrah!

The Digit-al Dozen Does It All Again - Hallowe'en

Hi Goddesses

Ok, so right now, you're probably sat there thinking one of 2 things -

* Halloween?  In September ? What is she thinking?

or

* WTF is that nubbin on her ring finger??

Yup, welcome to NubbinGate :)

I decided that as you all knew I had a major break going on, that I should just get over it, and paint my nails as if it didn't matter.  So all the rest of the DD manis feature The Stump ... ridiculous or not.

I couldn't bear the thought of doing a Halloween mani yet, so I decided to interpret the theme, and just pick some Halloween colours.

The polishes I used are -
NYC Pinstripe White - my fave cheap white
w7 Black - my fave cheap black
Essie Orange, It's Obvious
China Glaze Starboard
KIKO 293

I used both ends of the same dotting tool to get the large coloured dots and then the smaller black dots.

I actually really quite like how this turned out.  See - Halloween art that ANYONE can do :)

Enjoy xx :)

Digit-al Dozen does FESTIVENESS - Christmas Tree

Hi Goddesses

Day 3, and Crumpet goes 3D !!  We all know I've been pretty slack at using the nail art stuff I bought in the summer, but this seemed like the OBVIOUS occasion :)

So, let's start with the index and the ring fingers.  This is 2 coats of Lacquerhead Polish Green Goddess which you first saw HERE.  Once it was dry I used an Art Deco Gold glitter striper to add my tinsel.

Once that was dry, I applied a thick layer of top coat and put my little christmas lights on!  I have to say, chasing those pieces of glitter around my desk with a pair of giant tweezers was soooooo frustrating!  They kept pinging away like tiddlywinks lol.

The other nails are all on a base of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls with CG Starboard for the tree.  The thumb is a dotted pyramid, with a gold glitter star and a few gold beads.

On the middle finger, I was going for those trees that are cone shaped - you often see them on reception desks and the like - and the little finger was just some vague branch shapes lol.

Overall, I really enjoyed doing this mani, and I like the skittle effect.

Don't forget to check out the other awesome ladies - enjoy xx :)

Forever Autumn - Green and Gold

Hi Goddesses

Today's autumn post is about the start of the season.  The moment when the first hints of decay creep into the colour scheme, and the green starts to bleed away in favour of gold.

You may recognise the base of this mani from the Blackness Descending post (here).  I then stamped over it using Barry M Gold foil and LeaLac plate B.

I don't honestly know if the pattern is leafy, or whether it's paisley ha ha, but it seemed appropriate, and it captured the falling motion pretty well too.

If you haven't tried the LeaLac plates from Llarowe yet, I suggest you add them to your wishlist.  Interesting patterns and great quality.  The only downside is that the patterns are HUGE, so whilst this is great news if you have really long nails, it does mean some patterns are a little compromised, and shrinking them 30% or so would have made a much more effective design.  But despite that, I love 'em.

Enjoy xx :)

Depression Awareness - Blackness Descending

Hi Goddesses

In my second Depression Awareness post, I want to talk about Blackness Descending.  This is when the black cloud is  stalking you, and eventually pins you down, drowns you and claims you for himself.

Let's do the mani first.  This is a dark green gradient of China Glaze Starboard, ManGlaze Nawsome Sauce and OPI Black Onyx, all over 2 layers of China Glaze GaGa For Green.

I deliberately chose to matte top coat most of the nails - let's face it, nothing is glossy or shiny when the black cloud hits.

Some of you have asked how I do my gradients.  If I'm using more than 1 colour, this is how I do them - puddles of the colours, in lines, and then plonk my sponge on them.   If you're struggling with gradients, this is by far the easiest way to learn.  You don't need to do anything to merge the colours together - the plonking, and the fact you'll have to do at least 2 applications will get that blurred effect for you.

So, Blackness Descending.  Usually, it starts gradually, drifting down like snow, and settling. Whilst it's drifting, it can be shook off for short periods, but once it's settled, it's much harder to shift, and just like snow on the shoulders, the coldness seeps into your bones.

Then the snow gets heavier, getting ready to settle in for a period of time.  It compacts itself and smothers every positive thought you've ever had, choking the life out of every thought, emotion and response.

By now you are weary.  The snow is heavy, and thick, and dark.   You've long since learnt not to grope for a light switch to blink your way out of this darkness.  Instead, like an animal, you burrow in and hibernate.   It might last a day, or a week, or a month, or (heaven forbid) longer.  But you know that your only salvation is hibernation - to fight or to emote sucks more energy out of you than you can spare.

And so the darkness seals you in, like a shroud of shadows, insulating you from the world and yourself.   It circumvents your survival systems and feeds off every cell that you've got, leeching you, bleeding you, of yourself, your loves, your hopes, your everythings.   Darkness is all there is, and the darkness is all.

In these black times, we sometimes seek out new food.  Unfortunately, these morsels are usually words of loathing, memories of failure, and tirades of despair.  The salvation is the screaming, the silent screaming, as the long-dammed tears of injustice rip from your body, creating a river which, mixed with just the right amount of medicine, starts to thaw the snow.

The darkness eventually retreats, like a flood plain under the scorch of summer skies.  Depression, like nature, is cyclical, and you know it will snow again.   If you're lucky, next time you'll be more prepared and the snowstorm will be shorter.

Just remember - you are not alone xx
